ABSTRACT

Certainly most people would agree that a main goal of education is to have young people achieve academic success. Many parents would say their children have achieved academic success if they make good grades-without even considering how easy the content is. Young people don't develop problem-solving skills, resilience, and a strong work ethic when they are rescued from challenging learning opportunities and are not allowed to struggle in order to achieve academic success. An important concept to understand and encourage is a growth mindset. Educators and parents support the growth mindset by providing feedback that acknowledges effort as the reason students are successful and lack of effort as the reason students fall short in reaching a goal. Differentiation allows students to engage in learning that is appropriately challenging and that taps their interests and builds on their strengths. .
