Dawson and Osterling described eight examples of early intervention programs for children with autism, reviewing the programs to assess their effectiveness and determine whether the effectiveness of the intervention was related to the philosophy of the intervention or to characteristics of the child, such as intelligence quotients or verbal ability. The New York State Department of Health recruited a panel of experts to develop clinical practice guidelines for working with young children with autism. After reviewing the 10 programs, the National Research Council recommended that effective programs for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD): Perry and Condillac's study is a summary of assessment and intervention approaches for children and adolescents with ASDs sponsored by Children's Mental Health Ontario. The purpose of this guide was to provide a summary of empirically based assessment and intervention approaches for children and adolescents with ASDs and best practices for supporting families.
