ABSTRACT

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a very common childhood disorder that has rapidly gained attention over the last decade. Children with ADHD can face long-term problems within their homes, schools, and the community. The primary symptoms of ADHD are hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. A child exhibiting hyperactivity in the classroom might touch things frequently, wiggle her hands and feet, and play with surrounding objects. The last symptom of ADHD is impulsivity. Impulsivity occurs when a child tends to act without thinking through a situation. A child with ADHD predominantly inattentive type might look as though she is paying attention in class. In reality, the child is not focusing on what is front of her but is instead daydreaming or thinking of something happening outside of school. A child with ADHD may experience these outbursts more frequently.
