ABSTRACT

Talent development depends on first finding evidence of interest in a talent area. Educators may also consider recommending a child for Saturday or summer programming to help the child find peers. Athletic coaches look for talent among all young people to ensure that they are getting appropriate opportunities to develop their talents; in other words, they serve as talent scouts for this population. In talent development, it is important to capture interest and then to continue the talent development process on an ongoing basis. Natural talent or high interest may be the starting places in talent development, but it is the long-term commitment that will sustain progress in an area of talent. Educators play a huge role in talent development, and parents do as well. Parents need to share information about their child’s interests with teachers and seek opportunities for their child to be with others who share their interests.
