ABSTRACT

Growth mindset is essential for student growth and success. A person with a growth mindset believes that ability can grow, while a person with a fixed mindset believes that ability does not change. Or perhaps a student has a growth mindset about sports, but believes math ability cannot change. In the end, students with fixed mindsets potentially learn less. For them, the ultimate pursuit of excellence is not about learning; it's about showing or maintaining a level of ability. Those with fixed mindsets internalize the belief that if a person has to exert effort, then the person may not be smart. When authors support the development of growth mindset through appropriate curriculum, praise, and modeling, they allow students to consider the idea that their abilities are limitless.
