ABSTRACT

In striving toward excellence, students encounter more difficult situations that require courage and resilience to push forward through inevitable failures. Perfectionists cannot move forward because they are too consumed with fear of failure. The unpleasant emotions that accompany failure can keep an individual from leaving a comfort zone and trying something new. The author would have to understand the discomfort of getting out of her comfort zone and deal with these feelings, accept them, and move through them in order to try a new experience that would support her continued development. In order to manage, change, and adapt and solve problems of a personal and interpersonal nature risk-taking is necessary, yet she know many students experience worry when trying something that is outside their comfort zone.
