ABSTRACT

Most parents try to demonstrate the golden rule: “treat others how the children's want to be treated.” The parents show our kids how to be good citizens, friends, and people. The nurtured heart approach is a proactive approach to managing very challenging behavior with the premise that children need to feel safe, seen, and honored. A resilient child is a problem solver who rolls with the punches and takes things in stride. In raising resilient children, Brooks and Goldstein wrote that resilient children “have developed the ability to solve problems and make decisions and thus are more likely to view mistakes, hardships, and obstacles as challenges to confront rather than stressors to avoid”. The progressive increase principle implies the vaulter’s load must be increased gradually depending on the vaulter’s physical and mental abilities to handle the increase.
