ABSTRACT

Our child is a key part of the success plan, so the parent want him or her on board. Keep in mind that unlocking our child’s potential unfolds over time, so although the parents may be eager to start a lot of new activities, maintain an even pace. During the conversation, the parents suggest telling the child that Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is not something he or she can use as an excuse to get out of doing work. Our child has to work just as hard as peers, if not harder, and can usually receive school accommodations. The age-appropriate explanation helps our child understand that he or she is not broken or defective. After all, our child is growing and developing. The parents would neither want nor expect him to remain the same.
