ABSTRACT

Few relationships at home change more during adolescence than the mother-daughter relationship. Maybe the girls were close with our mother in elementary school, only to find ourself frustrated and at odds with her frequently now. Most psychologists agree that the can't ever really become our own person until the girls leave the house. And even then, the girls will struggle with that balance between being attached to our mom and being an independent woman. Mothers and their daughters—it is one of the most complex relationships around. And one that has been studied since people first started studying how people connect. Whatever our relationship is with her, she is likely one of the biggest influences the girls have ever had.
