ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the definition, role, benefits, and process of formative assessment throughout the IBL process. Authentic evidence is another critical aspect of the formative assessment process, and the chapter offers examples of the various kinds of work products that address this function. The last portion of the chapter addresses the management of formative assessment within the IBL process. Formative assessment is a multifaceted process used by educators and students during the learning process. Formative assessment fulfills three different roles within the IBL process. It provides information about the definition, role, and benefits of formative assessment within an IBL initiative, including specific templates, options, and steps for using formative assessment across the numerous phases of an IBL project. The chapter concludes the discussion of the background and foundational information that supports interest-based learning.
