ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the people will support students as they begin their actual research, searching for and using a variety of resources. Resources are categorized into two types: primary and secondary. A primary source provides firsthand evidence about an event, object, or person. Most important to every teacher is that “assessing the credibility and accuracy of multiple sources of information” is at the heart of the CCSS writing standards. Students have access to unimaginable amounts of information today, which they need as they pursue an IBL project. In this chapter, the authors considered a wide variety of resources and showcased two different ways to categorize them. One is not necessarily better than other; they are simply two different, yet important, ways to use resources. It focuses on the researching, investigating, exploring, experimenting, and designing that students will complete during the IBL process.
