ABSTRACT

Lola Sanchez was angry. Her town had been invaded by Union soldiers, her father was wrongly accused of spying and imprisoned, and now the Union soldiers had moved into the Sanchez home in Palatka, FL. Lola and her sisters, Francesca and Eugenia, decided it was time they took revenge. The soldiers began discussing a raid that was planned for the next morning. Lola listened closely. She knew this was critical information and she needed to warn the Confederate commander. Lola headed off into the night. She knew that once she reached the end of the forest, she would have to find a way to cross the river to reach the Confederate camp. The USS Columbine was set on fire and the Union soldiers were captured. The Sanchez sisters were never suspected and continued their spy work until the end of the war.
