ABSTRACT
53Before war broke out, the French people were in love with the new invention of the airplane. Paris was the site for heart-pounding air races and amazing displays of the newest type of plane. But war taught the French that the airplane could be used to cause death and destruction. German planes flew over the country and dropped bombs on businesses and homes. Pilots sprayed the ground with machine gun bullets and the French people were afraid.
