ABSTRACT
American Howard Burnham lost his leg in an accident when he was 14. Amputated 4 inches below the knee, he was fitted with a wooden leg and immediately learned how to ride horses, hunt, and track animals with his new appendage. He loved to read and had an amazing memory—so amazing that he could accurately recall almost anything he had read or heard.
