ABSTRACT
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill said that the British people would use every means possible to fight against the Nazi Regime and they did—they even tried fighting with dead rats. The idea came about because of the ordinary job that janitors had in the 1940s of cleaning up boiler rooms. Often rats or mice would die in the building and the janitor would get rid of the body by throwing it into the boiler room fire. The rats were killed, then cut open and stuffed full of explosives. The rats were then carefully sewn back together so no one would suspect that the dead animal was actually a bomb. The first shipment of rats was discovered by the Nazis, and Nazi officials exhibited the rat bombs at their top military schools. They conducted extensive searches in factories all over Germany looking for the clever British rat bombs.
