They called it a rainbow bomb party, and everyone in Honolulu was invited to attend. You could pull out your lawn chair and watch from your backyard, or if you wanted to spend a few bucks, you could watch the explosion from a hotel rooftop while you enjoyed drinks and snacks. Sounds like a big fireworks celebration, but it was actually the launch of a 1.45 megaton atomic bomb project called Starfish Prime, and it literally shook the world.
