ABSTRACT
The first World War was still raging in Europe during 1918, and everyone was frightened that Germany would find a way to attack the United States. The Germans were terrified that the Allies had attacked them with germ warfare in hope of killing soldiers and ending the war. The disease spread quickly, sweeping from the East Coast to the Western United States. Cities were hit harder than rural areas, probably because the germs could be easily spread by coughing, sneezing, or from saliva and bodily fluids. People living in crowded cities spread the disease to each other. Nobody knows the exact number of people who Once a family member was diagnosed with influenza, the entire house was quarantined. One of the strangest parts of the epidemic is that it left just as fast as it came. By the time 1919 rolled around, the war was over and the epidemic had ended.
