ABSTRACT
The doctor pulled out a set of finely sharpened steel needles. The wealthy man lay down on his couch and the doctor pushed the needles into his skin and left them there. It would take a while to open up the channels and get the qi flowing. A needle was pushed through the cone of mugwort deep into the skin and the mugwort was lit on fire. The physician was encouraging the qi to move with the heat from the smoldering mugwort. The healing properties of the mugwort would pull the sickness out of the wealthy man’s body. Breech is when the baby’s head is the wrong direction for safe birth. But mugwort is not placed directly on the skin of the mother and there are no blisters or scars. Instead, a needle is heated by a stick of burning mugwort. Then the doctor prepared the mugwort for burning.
