ABSTRACT

Writing can be an intimidating process for many people, no matter what their age. It can be revealing—too revealing. Some people just do not want to share intimate details about their thoughts, feelings and lives—at least not with others in a class or group. They may not have the level of trust necessary, and quite possibly for very good reason. Writing does not have to be a psychological journey. All the daily writing exercises in this book are entirely impersonal, while still challenging a writer’s creativity and ingenuity. The exercises take writers out of themselves and involve them in playing with words, inventing characters, imagining and writing about situations involving others, and much more. Most of all, the book encourages students of all ages to have fun with language. When students write frequently, and about many different topics, they become more comfortable with writing.
