ABSTRACT

Professional learning is essential for all educators to increase effectiveness and results for students. Teachers and content specialists should collaborate in teach communities to identify specific knowledge and skills needed to serve different groups of learners. Professional learning opportunities can also be cross-disciplinary, such as math and science collaboration. Professional learning for implementing the Next Generation Science Standards for gifted and high-potential learners should focus on evidence-based differentiation and instructional practices as they relate to specific core content. For gifted education professionals, the model would be built around the NAGC-CEC national standards for gifted education professional development. The organizer of the professional learning would arrange for teacher-learners to observe the demonstration one or more times, and then practice the strategy in their classrooms.
