ABSTRACT

The US education system too frequently fails to identify and develop a most talented and motivated students who will become the next generation of innovators. Without properly motivating, encouraging and intellectually challenging gifted students, the people may lose some of their mathematical talents forever. In addition, Krutetskii found that talented students actually saw the world through a mathematical lens, a “mathematical cast of mind,” They think about mathematics in qualitatively different ways. In the Schoolwide Enrichment Model, a talent pool of above-average ability/high-potential students is identified through a variety of measures. Recognize that math talent is more than computational acuity and memorizing formulas and that there are different types of mathematical talent.
