ABSTRACT

Examples of student experiences may help to illustrate the ways that technology can support the development of Type I experiences. This chapter provides examples that are based on two potential student interests: traveling to Mars and taking selfies. Type I experiences in the hopes that can encourage the interest in other students and further develop the fledgling interests in those students who identified these topics on their Interest-a-Lyzer. Using a Type I approach alongside a topic that engages students' interest creates a pathway for deeper learning. When developing a Type I, it should expand student’s scope of experience, namely heighten anticipation, stimulate interest, and deepen understanding. The chapter presents a case study of Christy, who finds that there is a lot of scaffolding that goes into making the Type I exposure experience something that leads students to want to go deeper.
