ABSTRACT

The previous chapters have focused on the minutiae of scale development, refinement and the logical basis of psychological assessment. It is appropriate to end the book by putting these issues into a little psychological context and suggesting how scores on psychological tests might best be used to develop theory. It seems that the way in which we view personality and ability traits has major implications for our approach to psychological assessment, so I think it is important to consider our whole rationale for trying to measure traits before reaching for a questionnaire or designing a new one.
