ABSTRACT

The Prophets constantly refer to ‘the law of God.’ It is binding on men and nations. Morality is an integral part of the knowledge of God. The moral law belongs to His revelation. The priests also claimed to give instruction from God; and some of the Prophets refer with respect to ‘the law of the priests’. By conceiving morality as part of the law of God, the Prophets gave its requirements the status, or quality, of absolutes. The law of God lays down its terms, what it specifically imposes; it is the deed of the contract. The covenant relation is expressed in, and maintained, by, the law. In the ultimate fulfilment of God’s purpose, it will be established in such a way that the law will be spontaneously fulfilled. The fulfilment of the moral law establishes the relation between man and God, bringing God to men and men to God.
