ABSTRACT
This chapter has provided an overview of the background information, including the landscape of regional political economy, the history of the bilateral relations between China and India, the development of the BRI and CPEC initiatives and the implementation of the relevant projects, as well as the rationale and central themes of the current research. With the information provided in this chapter, the readers can appreciate the reasons, logic and implications of the comprehensive engagement between these two neighbouring countries politically, economically and strategically. In addition, the issues related to the lack of understanding regarding the challenges and difficulties at firm and individual levels that could jeopardize the successful implementation of the CPEC projects have been discussed.
