ABSTRACT

This chapter provides detailed insights into interview findings conducted with Chinese and Pakistani employees in the CPEC projects across three sectors. The major finding is that employee adjustment is a complex process which requires attention to detail and where the role of networking is integral to achieve positive outcomes. The issues are related to three major themes, namely, cultural differences, organizational factors and individual factors, and these influence cross-cultural employee adjustment and project outcomes. As observed, employee socialization, networking norms, cross-cultural language proficiency, cross-cultural networks and previous international experience are important elements enhancing effective employee adjustment.
