ABSTRACT

Unwanted weight and patterns of overeating are associated with both conscious and unconscious beliefs about the self, others and the environment. If psychological issues, predominantly within the Child self (or in Transactional Analysis terms, the Child ego-state), are driving the need for extra food, then unless those issues are adequately resolved, it is likely that the Inner Child will rebel against losing weight. This rebellion takes different forms of behaviour which result in discontinuing the journey and regaining the weight whether the need is for food or a larger body size. It is therefore advantageous for the reader to be aware of what has been instrumental in stopping their weight loss plan in the past and to recognise when similar circumstances are arising again.
