ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces phototherapy and therapeutic photography and distinguishes between various approaches to the therapeutic use of photographs. Furthermore, described in this chapter is the way in which the handbook can be used by psychological therapists (counsellors, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, psychologists, arts and play therapists, and other professionals), as well as clients, including activist self-help clients. Each of the main approaches to phototherapy and therapeutic photography, which are covered in the subsequent chapters, are then introduced.
