ABSTRACT

In the previous two chapters [8 and 9] we have explored the path to implementing co-production into traditional, statutory mental health services. This was achieved by examining foundational as well as advanced strategic priorities for co-production. However, now we must also consider the measures required to sustain the concept into the future within this service context. After extensive reviews of both the peer-reviewed and grey literature, no papers were found thus far that documented how mental health services can go about sustainability of the concept. Additionally, finding principles of sustainability that relate to mental health service provision was difficult, therefore, as such result, the core principles of sustainability are discussed generically using the principles discussed by Buclet and Lazarevic (2014). The chapter concludes with a set of recommendations to support services in the sustainability of the concept so that co-production and indeed recovery-orientated practice can flourish into the future.
