ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter briefly discusses the idea behind the book and the main themes of the book. In the way of introducing the contents of the five chapters to follow, it lays down the main aims of the book, namely, to show how economic concepts including recent theoretical advances can help better understand real-life economic phenomenon; to rethink the ways the market economy can address the moral issues of human well-being and social justice, and, overall, to demonstrate how the study of economics at an introductory level and public discourses on economic issues can be made more engaging as well as more relevant to the problems of developing countries.
