ABSTRACT

Democritus of Miletus in Greece in 5 century BC is credited with being the originator of the concept of atomism. Atomism is the notion that there is the smallest indivisible part, atom, from which the universe and everything in it is formed. Discoveries of modern sciences and inventions of technologies and tools helped concretize the hypothesis of atomism, the reality of atom and evolve the concept of matter. The atoms in this worldview have been treated more like the tangible objects, existing in time and space, and in motion following Newtonian laws. It was discovered that the atoms were composed of electrons, protons and neutrons in motion, which broke the picture of world and made it impossible for the laws of atomic motions alone to govern the reality. There is motion in the Newtonian world, but it is fixed and orderly, and therefore our thoughts too are orderly.
