ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we suggest that genre is the missing link in the pedagogy of screenwriting. We also suggest that every film narrative fits into one genre or another and that there are two general categories of genre. The first, the classical genre, fits in the three-act structure, whereas the second, voice-oriented genres, does not.
