ABSTRACT

Art-making began as the first prehistoric humans took charred sticks from the fire and began to scratch markings onto a rock or cave wall. Artists can choose to work with color in a stick form with pastels, colored pencils and markers. Dating back to the earliest recorded artworks such as the cave paintings found in southern Europe, the images created show a limited range of hues. Paints are made up of two basic parts: a pigment and a vehicle. Professional series paints have a longer life than student or hobbyist paints. There are three parts to any brush, the hair, ferrule and handle. Probably the least important is the handle; as long as it's made out of a good strong wood, there is very little difference among them. There are other factors or characteristics to consider with selecting colors. There are three major types of paint: oils, acrylics and watercolors.
