ABSTRACT

Digital colors can only be seen through a monitor or as a printed piece. The actual digital creation is nothing more than a string of computer code, existing only within a software program such as Photoshop or Illustrator. There are many variables when working with digital color. The most basic component of digital color is the pixel, a combination of the words picture and element. To understand color depth, it is important to understand how the hardware and software operate. There are two major types of computer programs, raster and vector. Raster-based programs such as Photoshop are made up of pixels, and the image quality can vary with the number of pixels or dpi in an image. Color picking can be divided into two parts: the actual mechanical method for selecting a particular hue, and the overall color space. One of the newest file formats is scalable vector graphics.
