Introduction

This book is written for architects, urban designers, interior architects, engineers and our clients and investors as well as for the builders who construct what we design and for product manufacturers. The Open Building approach aims to make our buildings and urban fabric last for a very long time by assuring their capacity for change. We discuss how this balance can be achieved. The approach is not an end in itself but is a means to sustain and invigorate our building stock and our communities, allowing them to grow in value over the course of time.
