ABSTRACT
This conclusion revisits the primary argument that an assessment of John of Ruusbroec’s theology of spiritual formation from a literary perspective reveals a mystagogical narrative that comprehensively displays the characteristics of the archetypal hero’s journey. Such a narratological approach clarifies the complex structures of Ruusbroec’s theology and highlights the artistry and literary merits of his writing, thereby offering a path for appropriating the riches of his teaching on spiritual formation. This chapter summarises the main points covered in the book, restating the key parallels between Ruusbroec’s formational path and the hero’s journey. There is also a thorough consideration of potential areas of further research based on the argument of this book.
