ABSTRACT

At 5 p.m. on December 24,1966, as my daughter and I were finishing decorating the Christmas tree, I received a phone call from London asking me if I could leave within twenty-four hours to go to North Vietnam. I was to be a member of the first investigating team for the International War Crimes Tribunal which had been set up in Paris by a score of world-renowned leaders of the arts, the law and the peace movement.
