ABSTRACT

This chapter is about redefining ‘Making It’. The chapter begins with an epigraph; a quote from Vincent van Gogh that describes a large result that is cumulative of many small actions. Figures are included that depict musicians on a journey. Hannah Trigwell describes her relationship with the successful independent band Boyce Avenue, and the events that lead to her signing a record deal with them. Warren Huart describes how confidence in a recording setting comes over time. David Perell explains that orienting yourself in the correct way, and moving in that direction is important for achieving success with the least possible resistance. James Clear's 4 Laws of Behaviour Change are applied to how a musician can adopt habits around sharing their work.
