ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses ‘How to Carve Your Own Path’ as a musician in the new music industry. The author describes how her journey has developed and taken different paths to the ones first imagined. Contributors to this chapter include singer-songwriter and X Factor contestant Janet Devlin, producer and founder of Music Production for Women, Xylo Aria, Daniel Manzano of Boyce Avenue, award-winning music producer Warren Huart and Mike Rosenberg, aka the artist ‘Passenger’. Traditional routes of ‘paying a radio plugger to get you on the radio’ are challenged and the struggles (and benefits) of going on the ‘road less travelled’ are explained.
