ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on new organizational vision by exploring how formative data points can foster educators’ growth mindset, inform planning and focus, and ultimately facilitate differentiation and promote equity. Prioritizing growth mindset throughout the organization is closely tied to formative data points since they inform how students are performing and where they need additional support. Therefore, the focus on students’ growth mindset must include building educators’ capacity to utilize formative data. The conversation about real-time formative data must be closely tied to students’ growth mindset in order to build their capacity as independent learners. The growth mindset approach transforms students’ experience by viewing these data points as a progress check on the way to mastery, a journey that does not end until they are successful. Formative data analysis is a critical element of designing differentiated supports, which in turn contribute to an equitable vision in which all students succeed.
