ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how to identify formative data points that can lead to action, determine the level of detail that may be needed, choose the most effective timeline for analysis, and consider the complexity involved in gathering the data. The formative system should also be customizable to facilitate looking at the data through different lenses. Different action plans require viewing data in different ways, and this customization functionality will allow users to easily pull the information they need to inform next steps. Ease of access is also critical for consistent actionability. If the data points require weeks of gathering from a specialized team, the ability to access them for real-time analysis and action is significantly diminished. To address this concern, we built formative data system in student information system and included access to it in the very first link at the top left of the screen.
