ABSTRACT

In our data-rich environment, looking at data points through a critical lens and identifying ones that are actionable will lead to more impactful supports and initiatives and ultimately greater student success. This chapter explores the strategies for developing a comprehensive formative data gathering system and the foundation for collaborative analysis and action. Formative data by nature must be reviewed more than once, so the systems that is designed to pull the data must be easy to utilize repeatedly. Formative data must be analyzed and acted upon on the same day or the next lesson in order to be timely and applicable to the learning process. By creating systems minimize logistical challenges and keep the focus on actionable next steps, the team will be able to regularly review progress toward established goals in a transparent format that fosters trust and inclusivity and take advantage of the expertise of a variety of departments and practitioners.
