ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses two forms of writing not considered to this point in the book. One is term papers, an amorphous category that encompasses a variety of forms of writing that occur in academic settings. As far as possible, the points made are those that apply to any type of term paper. These points include the need to be clear about the requirements for the assignment; the need to select an interesting, doable, and at least partly original topic; and the need to make clear one's own creative contribution to the final product. The second form of writing that the chapter addresses is the creation of posters—specifically, posters designed to present the results of empirical studies at professional conferences. Discussed are the two aspects of a successful poster presentation: how to create an interesting and informative poster, and how to discuss one's work with those who stop by to discuss the research.
