ABSTRACT

This section of the book captures the experience and knowledge of the author, who has worked extensively in the tailoring industry in the area of performance (film, theatre, television, opera, fashion, and dance).

Subjects covered in this chapter include insights into the making of a waistcoat and the components that need to be considered to draft, construct, and complete this type of garment. A variety of topics are covered, such as the information required to construct the garment and pattern fabric analysis in order to create the garment we recognize today as a waistcoat.

This section of the book delves into the nuts and bolts of waistcoat making by going in-depth into its many aspects, such as what a waistcoat is, measurement-taking for men and women, terminology and styles, what measurements are required to construct a waistcoat pattern, and where to take those measurements on a person. For convenience, charts are included to help the reader decide what size their waistcoat would be, depending on the results the measurements of the person in question.

Other aspects covered include the type of equipment required to draft patterns and what sewing accoutrements are needed to construct the garment once the pattern has been drawn. Fabric meterages are discussed, along with the haberdashery needed to complete the garment. Lastly, construction methods are discussed in detail in order for the reader to be able to understand and use that information to construct their own garment.
