ABSTRACT

Intercultural decolonisation in practice, how non-Indigenous people engage with decolonisation, is the focus of this chapter. Issues of belonging, identity and socialised beliefs are introduced and discussed in this chapter. It gives a solid framework for engaging with breaking down the barriers of social differences in a culturally safe space for everyone, based on the Indigenous principle of respect: intercultural respect. Also discussed here is the way the Dinawaan (Emu) workshops created a culturally safe space for sensitive discussions on the inner workings of mainstream Australian culture to occur.
