ABSTRACT

Reflecting on university presidents’ insights on leadership reveals prospects for higher education practice, policy and research. The ideas of individual presidents presented throughout this book have been affirmed, integrated, and extended in global conferences on higher education contexts, innovations, and futures. Drawing on two international university president conferences, we extract insights regarding university presidents’ roles and contributions, the challenges they face, and approaches to cultivating future leaders. Studying presidents’ experiences and ideas reveals the need for more systematic development of future presidents, for major research into ‘what works’ in higher education, and for global governance.
