Listening to the voices of global university presidents is important to understand higher education. In this interview, Professor Peter Høj, vice chancellor and president of the University of Queensland, discusses personal experiences, leadership insights and arrangements, the institution, and future challenges and opportunities shaping higher education. The vice chancellor talks about balancing excellence across an institution’s disciplinary portfolio, the necessity for comprehensive development and boundary-crossing within an institution, understanding government and industry, and the importance of challenging students to explore new technologies and complex ideas and to be creative.
