ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the current research about teachers quitting the profession. While more than half of teachers feel like quitting teaching, currently a small number of them actually are. For some teachers, renewing physically through rest and nutrition are an important step in continuing to teach. For specific teaching issues listed in the current research, links are provided to the chapters in the book covering those areas – unengaged students, classroom discipline, time management, standardized testing, and working with colleagues/administration. The chapter ends with the inspiring story of intervention specialist Martha Manchester and her journey from thinking she would quit at the end of her first year to a lifetime of educational service.
