ABSTRACT

This chapter challenges teachers to carefully examine the amount of time they are devoting to teaching. Teachers are encouraged to differentiate between volunteer and required time as well as employ strategies to maximize their time. Strategies include template activities, student independence, student-created work, collaboration (locally, nationally, and internationally), doing what only you can do, and decreasing volunteer grading. The strategies are presented in a “day in the life” format so teachers can see how these strategies could result in a day with a low preparation to activity ratio between the teachers and the students.
