ABSTRACT
This chapter defines the role of standardized testing in contemporary teaching practices. Several areas of common misconception are revealed through teacher examples and analogies, including: lack of context, one-dimensional comparisons, the myth of linear progress, problems with trend lines, and learning curve misconceptions. The end of the chapter reveals the teacher’s role in presenting a proper perspective on standardized testing for students and parents.
